The Clear-Free Premium Under Gravel Filter by Penn-Plax is a versatile and efficient aquarium filtration system designed for 40-55 gallon tanks. This air-driven filter utilizes an air pump (not included) to cycle crystal-clear water throughout the aquarium, while maintaining a clean and uncluttered interior.

The filter system comprises four 11.25" x 11.25" filter plates, four adjustable lift tubes (13.25" to 16.5" in length), and a suite of accompanying accessories. As the air is pushed through the air stones and rises through the lift tubes, water is gently suctioned through the gravel and filter plates, allowing both air and water to pass through the Filt-a-Carb Activated Carbon Cartridges for biological, chemical, and physical filtration.

This process also facilitates the collection and colonization of anaerobic bacteria within the gravel and filter plates, further enhancing the biological filtration capabilities. Additionally, the air-driven design of the Clear-Free Premium Under Gravel Filter aerates the tank, effectively combining filtration and aeration into a single, efficient system.

The filtration system includes four filter plates, four adjustable lift tubes, four straight airline tubes, nine filter plate connectors, and four replaceable Filt-a-Carb Activated Carbon Media Cartridges. The filter plates measure 11.25" in width and depth, and the combined width of the plates is 45".
